I’m Jean Howard, an artist fascinated with the use of shapes and colors to make organic and original designs into quilted art. I grew up in a small rural faming community in Central Missouri where quilting was a common pastime. My quilting obsession began years ago with traditional piecing and hand-quilting, but it was not long until I found I enjoyed changing up designs and doing original compositions. By studying the natural world around me, I find endless inspiration for my art. Working improvisationally, I first make paper sketches, and then construct the fabric narrative, infusing each piece with vibrant hues to delight the viewer’s eye. My design wall helps me to capture new ideas and incorporate them into the work-in- progress. As I play with shapes and hues, each quilt inspires the next colorful fabric adventure.
